What it does

Treewright copies Confluence page trees the way most teams expect it to work. You see exactly what will happen before anything is created. Links between the copied pages point at the copies. Labels and attachments come along, restrictions too if you choose, and every job ends with a report you can read.

Save any page tree as a template with variables such as {{Client}} and {{StartDate}}, and give child pages the edit restrictions of their parent in one step.

  • See it before you run it

A preview lists the pages with their new titles (the first 200 of a big tree), the copy method, naming conflicts and anything that cannot be copied (whiteboards, databases, folders, smart links, archived pages), plus warnings for very large trees.

  • Links that work in the copy

Page links, Include Page and Excerpt Include, Children Display and Page Tree macros, page URLs (including short links), anchors and queries are rewritten to point at the copies. Links to pages outside the tree keep pointing at the originals.

  • Reliable on big trees

Copies run in the background, survive timeouts and rate limits, can be stopped and resumed, and reuse the pages that an earlier attempt already created.

  • A report for every job

What was created, every link that was rewritten (before and after), warnings and any page that needs attention. Reports are kept for 90 days.

  • Templates with variables

Turn a page tree into a template, fill in a short form (text, dates, lists) and get a complete tree with titles and text filled in, safely escaped.

  • Edit restrictions that follow the tree

Apply a page's edit restrictions to all its children with a preview, or turn on a rule so new and moved pages inherit them automatically.

Runs on Atlassian

Treewright is built only on Atlassian Forge. It makes no calls to outside servers, and your data stays in Atlassian: in Confluence itself and in Forge storage on your site. That makes it eligible for Atlassian's Runs on Atlassian program.

Good to know

  • It copies page trees, not whole spaces. Copy the top pages of a space one by one; space settings, permissions, blogs and the theme are not copied.
  • Whiteboards, databases, folders, smart links used as pages and archived pages cannot be copied. They are skipped and listed in the preview, and the report counts them.
  • Pages you are not allowed to see cannot be listed or copied, because Treewright works with your permissions.
  • A job copies up to 2,000 pages. When Confluence cannot copy a tree in one step, pages are copied one by one, which takes longer.

Data and security

Treewright runs entirely on Atlassian. It makes no calls to outside servers, and everything it stores sits in Forge storage on your Confluence site. The security page lists what is stored, for how long and which permissions are needed. The privacy policy and the EULA are public.
