What to include
A good request lets us answer without asking questions first.
- Your Flarum version and PHP version (php flarum info prints both).
- The translation service you use, and the message from Test the connection in the settings. Never send your API key.
- A link to a post where the problem happens, if the forum is public.
- What you expected to happen, and what happened instead. A screenshot helps.
- When it happened, with your time zone.
Please do not send passwords or confidential content. If we need an example, we will ask for it.
Common questions
Readers see "The translation service did not answer".
Open the settings and choose Test the connection. It shows the message from the service itself, such as a wrong key, an unknown model or an exhausted quota. For an OpenAI-compatible service, check the address and that the model name is exact.
A local model returns nothing.
Reasoning models such as Gemma or Qwen can spend their answer on thinking. Turn on Turn off model thinking in the settings, and check that the model is loaded in LM Studio or Ollama.
The translate link does not appear on a post.
The link is hidden on posts in the reader's own language and on posts whose language could not be detected. Very short posts often have none; turn on Offer translation when the language is unknown. Readers also need the Translate posts permission.
Older posts have no translate link.
Their language was never detected, because they were written before the extension was installed. Run php flarum karelia-translate:detect once. It runs offline and costs nothing.
How do I keep the cost down?
Saved translations are never paid for twice. Set a monthly character limit, keep guests without the Translate posts permission, and consider DeepL API Free, a local model or LibreTranslate.
Do you see our posts or our key?
No. The extension runs on your server and talks only to the service you chose. It never contacts us.
Security issues
If you believe you have found a vulnerability, do not post it publicly. Write to support@karelialabs.atlassian.net instead. The security page says what to include.
